How do your like your Hydrogen bond? Stuck to carbon or oxygen?
All fuels contain the Hydrogen bond. In fact, the Hydrogen bond is the heart of power in all fuels. Most of the real energy is in the Hydrogen bond. All fossil fuels being Hydrocarbons are exclusively molecules of Hydrogen and Carbon – it’s the Hydrogen which is key.
What happens if we take the Carbon out? Well, everything actually. All toxicity in burning or using fuels comes from the Carbon atom. Remove the Carbon and two things happen: the fuel becomes more energy dense by weight, and the fuel becomes non-toxic. How do you like your hydrogen? It’s a fair question. Hydrogen stuck to carbon or oxygen. That is the question.
The problem with burning Carbon based fuels is often incomplete combustion. If you don’t burn Carbon fuels hot enough or quick enough then you get all kinds of ugly chemical animals emerging.
Partially Consumed Hydrocarbons (PCH) is a nightmare of toxic soup. Incomplete burning produces hundreds of different chemical compounds almost all of them detrimental in many ways.
All kinds of chemistry occurs when you don’t burn Carbon fuels perfectly including Endocrine Disruptors. These nasty chemicals affect your DNA and RNA functions causing all kinds of problems in biology.
What choice do we have? A big one. And, a proper one. From a chemistry perspective I can say the world has a clear choice: either source your Hydrogen stuck to Carbon as we’ve done for three hundred years, or get your Hydrogen stuck to Oxygen – and save the world. Which are we going to do? Hydrogen stuck to carbon or oxygen?
The advantages, shown in the sketch right compares the nature of each. Toxic for Carbon, non toxic for Water. Limited resources for Carbon, unlimited resources for water. Carbon is non-renewable, water is renewable – when managed properly. Carbon offers variable costs throughout the supply chain, green hydrogen water based fuels are all known costs largely non-variable.
The future of fossil fuels is only collapse. You can debate how long it will take, but collapse is inevitable with ever increasing toxicity. Famously “dose, makes the poison.” For our civilization we’ve overdone the dose long ago. The result of a fossil fuel energy paradigm has left us quite a mess to clean up. But, first things first, converting fossil fuel to green hydrogen systems with potency, safety, universal availability. Best of all and most important: 100% non-toxicity throughout the value chain – is job one.
Carbon or Oxygen - the Big Picture for Powering Civilization
It’s all about the big picture. How we use energy in concert with our Economy, our Environment, and our Energy system. Water is the common denominator for all three aspects. Command water properly and we have a chance. Waste 44% of all fresh water cooling down condensers in thermal power plants is a fools errand – and is not sustainable – meaning it will collapse.
The sketch right shows just some of the global challenges we face as a fossil fuel world. There are over 17 global disasters unfolding but there are more – just ran out of room to draw them all!
So, how are you going to do it? How are you going to solve all these problems happening everywhere in every country and culture?
There is only one way: green hydrogen. At the lower part of the sketch we see Residential, Commercial, and Industrial uses for energy. We see cars, trucks, buses, Semis, dump trucks, ships and planes. We even see a tractor – all machines we depend on. If any solution proposed cannot power all of these machines – then it’s clearly not a solution.
The idea of “Battery” powering these heavy industries and machines is laughable if it wasn’t so under-thought. The energy density of Hydrogen is 60x by weight over Lithium-ion batteries. In other words, Hydrogen stores 60x times more energy – and people want to use batteries?
Not if you want to actually electrify transportation and heavy machinery and industry. For that you need a serious fuel, an energy dense fuel, a hot fuel, a potent fuel. And, we need that fuel to be available everywhere and 100% non-toxic. Anything do that? Yes, green hydrogen.
How much Energy does a Modern Human Being Require?
Human beings need energy. We need food, water and shelter but as a society we need so much more.
We need energy both Electricity and Fuel. We need clean water and waste-treatment. We need protein for our animals, protein for humans, and fertilizers (preferably organic) and we need all of the other technologies we’ve developed for built environment, mobility and the production of things.
All of these needs are enormous when we count everyone. The world population has now crested 8 Billion souls onboard.
In North America we need over 250 kWh of energy each day per man, woman, and child. In Europe it’s about 200 kWh per soul per day, with Asia around 150 kWh of energy per person per day. Africa is around 75 kWh of energy per person per day.
If the world wants to live as North Americans’ then we’ll need several more Earths. Or, we can take care of the one we have and align our physical needs with a sustainable system which provides for human growth yet does not consume the very Earth we need.
The Economy, the Environment, and our Energy system must come clean so to speak, and realize the paradigm shift we’re about to engage upon, converting fossil fuel to green hydrogen systems, but we’re about to do it the only it could be done: profitably.
Carbon or Oxygen: The Green Hydrogen Economy
Is there a silver bullet? Ask most “experts” and they’ll say of course not. There is no silver bullet when it comes to energy. Well, is that true, or more deception to keep the status quo?
Deception my dear readers, that’s what it is. In fact, there is a Silver Bullet, it’s called the Green Hydrogen Economy.
The Green Hydrogen Economy is based on 21st century technology which doesn’t boil water but rather “borrows” it. Using and Electrolyzer, Storage and Fuel Cells in the same power block now you have the ultimate battery: the Hydrogen Battery.
Renewable energy is variable. Human’s are On-demand. The only way to bridge the two, is to bridge the two with storage. The Standardized Hydrogen Power Block standardizes the power block into three functions: energy in, energy stored, and energy out. As it turns out that’s the key to the whole game.
Not fossil fuels which took millions of years to form from ancient sunlight, to modern contemporary sunlight – the natural energy which occurs in real time. The sun, the wind, geothermal where safe to engage, these are the power supplies of the future. The vital storage function best served by Hydrogen.
Green Hydrogen is the “Water Battery” in reality.
The Green Hydrogen Economy is a worldwide adoption and application of standardized green hydrogen systems to power anything you want to do. Fleets? No problem. Residential, Commercial and Industrial power supply? No problem. Instead of polluting the world with ever increasing energy consumption, the idea here is to replace the entire paradigm with Green Hydrogen systems which are potent, safe, available to everyone and 100% non-toxic. Sounds like a future to me.
The Steam Engine and Internal Combustion is our Past - Not Our Future
The sketch to the right illustrates the foolishness of Carbon fuels. I say foolish because it is. The only people who benefit from fossil fuels are those who sell it to you. Fossil fuels powered the past – not the future.
No one else benefits. Not the air you breath, the food you eat, the water you drink or the genes you pass on can get away from fundamental toxicity. And, the scary reality of “bioaccumulation.”
In fact, pulling no punches, it’s clear that toxic fossil fuels have no future in our world. They are only the past. The sooner we stop listening to Fossil Fuel chemical companies the sooner we can get on with setting this world right again.
The HydroCarbon Man is now being replaced with the Silicon Man. I say that as my opinion as Silicon for our information technology and Silicon for our most basic non-toxic solar PV panels.
I see a future full of great human achievements starting with reaching and attaining our own humanity. And, how our humanity affects all other species on this great rare Earth.
Any critical thinking leads you to the realization that there is a real problem here on Earth. And, this really big problem is absolutely understandable. If we want to flourish as a civilization we have to get our energy system right.
Get energy right, and everything can be right. Get energy wrong, and nothing can be right. That’s how the cookie crumbles.

Not a chance. You can debate how long we have, but you can’t debate our current direction – straight into the mountain. If we were in a cockpit the jet auto pilot would be saying “Low Terrain – Pull Up!” “Low Terrain – Pull UP!”
